Get the skinny on quitting tobacco
11/3/2015
11/3/2015 (La Porte, Starke counties) - Wellness Outreach professionals with the IU Health La Porte Hospital Mobile Health Clinic are taking information about lung disease and quitting tobacco on the road this month and look forward to interacting with the public during National COPD Awareness Month.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to a group of lung conditions that restrict healthy breathing and can significantly affect a person's quality of life. Smoking and tobacco use are often a leading cause of COPD, cancer and other health problems.
The Mobile Health Clinic will visit businesses in various La Porte and Starke county neighborhoods with education on how to stop smoking and using tobacco, and how to get help with COPD or other lung conditions. In Starke County, IU Health Starke Hospital has worked closely with the Moving Starke County Forward initiative to promote the Indiana Tobacco Quit Line and help community members gain access to resources for quitting smoking. In addition, Smokefree.gov has launched a mobile app that can help tobacco users quit smoking.
